About the Conference
In the last few years the rules of business valuation have changed to accommodate the global financial recession and recovery, COVID-19 Pandemic, and regulations and polices enacted by countries. This conference on the” Art & Science of Business Valuation” is hosted by the Center for International Business Valuation (CfIBV), International Association of Certified Valuation Specialists (IACVS), International Society of Business Appraisers (ISBA), in partnership with several research and consulting organizations as a platform for valuation experts to discuss best practices, trends, lessons learned, challenges and opportunities in the profession. The state of business valuation in North America, the Caribbean, Asia, Europe, and Africa will be discussed by speakers.

Dr. Joel DiCicco
Dr. Joel DiCicco is a CPA with over 30 years of practitioner experience in finance, taxation, and accounting/auditing. For approximately 20 years, Joel worked for the IRS with increasingly responsible jobs leading up to his position as Territory Manager for Financial Products. In this role, he worked and supervised the most complex and sophisticated tax structuring and valuation issues, utilizing many of the latest forensic techniques applied in tracking the true substance of transactions. He also served on details as Territory Manager for both Global High Wealth and Large Business Employment Taxes. Dr. DiCicco has been a faculty member at Florida Atlantic University for more than 15 years and is now a full-time instructor for the Graduate Executive MBA program. Over these years, he has taught courses in accounting, finance, and taxation. In addition, Joel lectures on Financial Risk Management and Derivatives, as well as Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation, for the Master of Science in Finance program. He is also the Co-Founder and a Principal Consultant of the Center for International Business Valuation, which conducts training programs in valuation and data analysis. Dr. DiCicco earned his PhD in Public Administration focusing on Budgeting and Finance, and has both a master’s in taxation and an MBA in finance. Dr. DiCicco holds credentials in valuation from both the International Society of Business Appraisers (ISBA) and IACVS.
Uliana Filatova
Moses Gitonga
Moses Gitonga is a Principal Partner and Consultant at the CfIBV. He was the first student to earn a Master of Business Valuation (MBV) degree and is now a faculty member at FUSE, a graduate college providing students with both technical skills and practical educational experience in business valuation. Mr. Gitonga is an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) member (Fellow) and also an International Certified Valuation Specialist with Advanced Studies in Financial Instruments (ICVS-A). He has over 10 years of financial management experience.
Philippe Dubois
Philippe Dubois has an advanced background in finance and obtained his Master of Science degree in
Finance from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). He has extensive experience in operations management, finance leadership, and strategy in the technology, banking, and energy industries. Mr. Dubois raised money and interfaced with Wall Street, and held upper-management level positions at a Fortune 500 company and a major international bank. He also served as a Financial Analyst for the only Haitian international investment group, GB Group. Philippe is an Associate Director at FAU and currently is enrolled in FAU’s Executive PhD program at the College of Business.
William Hanlin
William Hanlin serves as the President and CEO of IACVS. Over 40 years, Mr. Hanlin has acquired a unique
and varied background of skills in accounting, taxation, business matters, and financial management on the domestic level and in multiple countries outside of the United States. He is the founder of Hanlin Moss Yi, PS, a firm of certified public accountants and valuation analysts. As founding partner, he directs the Firm’s growth and client development, as well as provides training for professional staff that have joined the Firm. Mr. Hanlin is frequently engaged to review financial documents in connection with fraud and/or fraud-related matters. Many of these engagements include providing written reports of findings to judges and juries in various local and Federal jurisdictions. As a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Deterrence (CFD) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and International Certified Valuation Specialist (ICVS), Mr. Hanlin led numerous projects in forensic services/ fraud deterrence, valuation, advocacy, and expert witness services. Mr. Hanlin has been an instructor for many years on the subject of valuation theory and application, as well as fraud deterrence.
Richard Claywell
Richard Claywell serves as the IACVS Board Chairman and was previously IACVS’s Director of Education. He was the first Certified Public Accountant in Texas to earn the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation and one of the 20 individuals that hold all four business valuation designations. He previously served on both the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) Executive Board and Fraud Deterrence Board. Currently teaching at the University of Houston Clear Lake, Mr. Claywell is a seasoned, global educator with extensive professional publications in valuation and litigation. Among his more notable academic achievements, Mr. Claywell was an American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Certificate of Educational Achievement Instructor for the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Business Valuations. He also supervised the accreditation and continuing education of IRS public officials in the business valuation field. In addition, as an experienced expert business valuation litigation witness, he is frequently requested to teach by bar associations and law schools.
Shawn Hyde
Shawn Hyde has been appraising small businesses since January of 1999. He performs valuations of privately owned businesses for a variety of client needs: for gift and estate tax purposes, divorce, shareholders’ buy/sell agreements, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), shareholder disputes, and acquiring Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. He is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), and the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA) holding each organization’s professional certification; a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), and a Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) respectively. He also holds the Business Certified Appraiser (BCA) from the International Society of Business Appraisers.
Dereje Tessema
Dr. Dereje Tessema is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Center for International Business Valuation, a US-based research, consulting, and professional training organization, and the Academic Vice President of Florida University Southeast (FUSE), formerly Florida Institute of Finance College (FIFC). He also is a Co-Founder of the International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research Studies (www.icirsconferences. com). With over 25 years of experience managing government and private sector projects and programs, he provides experience-based consulting services to clients in several disciplines. In addition, Dr. Tessema teaches graduate-level project and program management at Georgetown University. He has a Ph.D. in Management, two master’s degrees (one in Engineering and the other in Information Systems), a Master Certificate in Project Management and Enterprise Architecture, and several industry certifications including Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), and Scaled Agile Framework Consultant. Dr. Tessema has published three books in leadership and management, and several research papers in the field.
Heidi DiCicco
Heidi DiCicco is currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of FUSE in Boca Raton, Florida, and the Secretary-Treasurer of the IACVS-Africa Charter. She brings to these roles more than 10 years of experience as an educator, an eclectic educational background, and numerous years of administrative practice. Ms. DiCicco has taught administrative law and procedures, organizational behavior, communication, mathematics, leadership, and business law all at the college level. In addition to a master’s degree in business, Ms. DiCicco is a JSD Candidate and holds a Juris Doctorate with multiple academic recognitions, including a public interest law fellowship and two book awards. She served as a court administrator and attorney for a child advocacy program and briefly as a Senior Attorney for Florida’s Office of the Attorney General, Children’s Legal Services. Ms. DiCicco also previously was a Department Director for a nonprofit.
Robert C. Brackett
Robert C. Brackett has served as president of Crandall & Brackett, Ltd., since 1991. He is active in professional organizations that provide training and standard setting for business valuators. He is a founding member and secretary general of the IACVS, the world’s largest association of business valuators and fraud deterrence professionals (with more than 10,000 members in over 50 countries). Mr. Brackett also serves on the Standards Committee and Collegiate Committee for NACVA, the U.S. charter of IACVS. He served on NACVA’s Executive Advisory Board until 1996, when he was elected to chair the newly established Membership Board. Now past chairman, Mr. Brackett serves in the position of ambassador for NACVA. At the Illinois CPA Society, he served on various business valuation-related committees. Mr. Brackett has authored and taught courses in business valuation theory and practice through the Illinois CPA Foundation, AICPA, IACVS, and NACVA. In May of 1999, Mr. Brackett received the “Member Emeritus” award from NACVA; this designation has only been awarded four times in NACVA’s 20 years of existence.
Vusani Moyo
Vusani is a Chartered Certified Accountant, a Chartered Management Accountant and an ICAEW-Chartered Accountant. He holds an ACCA Public Practicing Certificate and has over 18 years of experience in financial management and financial reporting. Vusani is the company’s valuation and financial modelling expert in South Africa. He specializes in the valuation of small to large private companies operating in various industries. His previous advisory experience includes strategy development, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, valuations, financial modelling, due diligence reviews as well as financial and treasury management. Vusani is also and established academic and he currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Finance at University of Venda where he is the Head of Subject: Financial Management.
